Increasing Threat of Active Shooters in Today's Environment
Public safety is paramount for any organization, and implementing robust software solutions can significantly enhance communication with law enforcement and streamline planning processes.
These software solutions provide a centralized platform for reporting incidents, conducting risk assessments, and disseminating emergency protocols, ensuring swift and effective response in critical situations.
By facilitating real-time communication between staff and law enforcement agencies, these tools enable quick coordination and collaboration during emergencies, minimizing potential risks and enhancing overall safety measures.
Additionally, these solutions offer advanced planning features, such as scenario simulations and resource allocation, empowering organizations to proactively address potential hazards and optimize emergency preparedness strategies.
Ultimately, investing in workplace safety software solutions not only fosters a culture of safety but also ensures efficient communication and strategic planning for mitigating risks and safeguarding employees and assets.
Today’s evolving enterprise environments are easily enabled with communications that can now take place from almost anywhere and on any device.
Enterprise users working from home and office will likely cross the invisible boundaries of 9-1-1 call centers without being aware.
911inform Location Discovery Solution (LDS) easily allows users to update their physical location without having to do more than tap their smartphone screen or a few clicks from your laptop.
As working from home becomes more popular, user mobility is of utmost importance. In addition, a user with a desk phone at the office may also work remotely via laptop and softphone.
The user is now active in two separate locations, where both are tethered to the same phone number and extension.
Thus, the user’s location information has not updated, so a 9-1-1 call would be routed to the PSAP that covers their work location, delaying response times.

Imagine police officers instantly gaining access to the system on their patrol cars and school administrators having it at their fingertips on their cell phones.
With a simple click, they can remotely activate school cameras and secure all doors, providing real-time information to law enforcement and ensuring a swift response.
The innovation doesn't stop there with some schools optioning facial recognition and license plate readers, bolstering security measures to safeguard school properties.
Visible weapons scanning technology adds another layer of protection, ensuring potential threats are detected and addressed promptly.
WEAPONS DETECTION
ZeroEyes connects to existing security cameras and monitors streaming video feeds looking for firearms.
The AI image classification system processes thousands of images per second and immediately notifies trained personnel in the ZeroEyes Operation Center if an image appears to contain a firearm.
ZeroEyes software analyzes over 36,000 images per second from security camera video feeds and alerts authorities within seconds if a firearm is detected.
GUNSHOT DETECTION
Shooter Detection Systems empowers communities, workplaces to deploy gunshot detection to increase safety. SDS was created to assist in reducing the growing threat from indoor shooting incidents.
Schools, malls, airports, government and private buildings have all experienced increased shooting incidents over the last few years. In many of these cases, the delay in the time it took to accurately report and locate the shooter has lead to unfortunate consequences.
The SDS Indoor Gunshot Detection System simultaneously detects gunfire and relays this information via a floor plan map, text and email with shot location.
System/Sensor maintenance alerts can also be programmed to go to specific individuals via text and email.
Additional modules can be configured to automate security and notification systems such as building alarms, lights/strobes, video, access control, computer-aided police dispatch (CAD), etc.
Guardian sensors can be installed into existing building infrastructure through a flush wall/ceiling or surface mount for impenetrable structures.
Guardian’s core technology was developed in conjunction with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and by a major defense contractor who has deployed over 10,000 military-grade gunshot detection systems to Iraq, Afghanistan and around the globe.
These systems have saved many American and NATO Soldier’s lives. This same capability is now available to the commercial market through SDS and the system configuration is fully scalable to the area of desired coverage.

Safe Zone’s advanced sensor technology makes indoor gunfire detection available for buildings of all sizes and all budgets.
It takes Safe Zone about 10 seconds to perform firearm analysis and push alerts to users with the 911 notification giving responders a graphical view into the location of an active shooter’s actions seconds after an event begins.
New FCC Laws. One of the benefits of moving your phone system to the cloud is the built-in technology to meet the requirements of Kari’s Law and Ray Baum’s Act.
Kari's Law and the Ray Baum's Act now require additional dispatchable location reporting to 911, requiring more accurate detail, that if done incorrectly, could incur significant recurring costs. Now, NG911 solutions are available to help solve these issues in new ways, while adding additional capabilities, and reducing the recurring operating expense.
However, UCaaS solutions don’t inherently identify if someone calls 911 from their cell phone within your office or campus environment. And since 80% of all 911 calls are made from cell phones this could create a significant gap in your safety plans.
What is Geofencing?
911 Geofence is a location-based service that alerts security and staff when a mobile phone calls 911 within a virtual boundary set up around a geographical location.
This applies to ANY cellular 911 call made from within the geofence by any smartphone cellular device.
How can Geofencing help?
Geofencing can immediately alert all key personnel of emergency event and provide direct line-of-communication between building faculty, police dispatch, and first responders.
Make every second count when it matters most.
Kari’s Law Requirements
1. Does your current 911 infrastructure notify relevant parties that an emergency call has been made via an organization provided PBX phone?
2. Does your current 911notification provide the location of the device that dialed 911?
3. Does your current 911 infrastructure allow for 911 calls to be places without requiring them to dial 9 first then the number?
Ray Baum’s Act
1. When you dial 911 from your business phone, do you send the building address with the call through the 911 network?
2. When you dial 911 from your business phone, do you send additional information that allows the calling party to be located in a reasonable amount of time to the PSAP and on-site individuals.
3. Does your organization contain multiple buildings or buildings with multiple floors that are listed under one address? If you answered “YES” to the question above:
3.1 Do you provide this additional location data (i.e. building, floor, zone) with the 911 calls?
3.2 Can the level of location detail you provide allow you and/or first responders the ability to find the caller in a reasonable amount of time?
4.0 Do you have a way of updating associated device locations in the 911 records when the devices are moved?
5. Do you have a mechanism for knowing when devices move throughout the network so that the associated 911 records can be updated?
6. If you have employees working from home who are using a softphone on a laptop or a hardware IP or SIP phone, are you currently provisioning their location data to the 911 database?
7. If you have employees that travel frequently and using a softphone on a laptop or a hardware IP or SIP phone, are you currently provisioning their location data to the 911 database?

Uber find me but 911 can't!
This CNBC YouTube explains the major problems with today's 911 technology and how RapidSOS save lives!
With more than 80% of 911 calls originating from a mobile device, the 911 call center's Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) have a hard time locating 911 callers on their mobile phones.
RapidSOS is an emergency response data platform that securely links data to 9-1-1 and first responders with more than 350 million devices connected to 5,000+ local public safety agencies.
This covers over 94% of the U.S. and is accessible to over 300 million people.
RapidSOS built the emergency response data platform to help first responders get the data they need to save more lives.
RapidSOS works with some of the world’s largest organizations to help them protect their customers, members, and employees by linking real-time data from their smart devices securely to first responders. A number of companies including Apple, Motorola and several start-ups are trying to fill the technology gap.
RapidSOS is a data integration platform that has been adopted free of charge in about 4,800 PSAPs. According to the company, this means they cover about 92% of the country and assists in 150 million emergencies per year.
“We’re just scratching the surface of the amount of data that we could be using,” said Michael Martin, CEO of RapidSOS.
“We’re passing precise location for most 911 calls now. But you can imagine all the capabilities, like in a fire if your building could talk or if your device could detect a heart attack and immediately transmit that through.” He says carriers also have a responsibility, especially when it comes to addressing the altitude problem.
But in the end, he says, the federal government is needed.
In 2022 a $1.5 trillion infrastructure bill that included $12 billion toward 911 passed the House but stalled in the Senate.
RapidSOS Saves Lives!
is an intelligent safety platform that securely links location data to the 9-1-1 PSAP and first responders as well as 911Inform, InformaCast, and most of the companies in the workplace safety space.
RapidSOS is the industry leader connecting more than 500 million devices directly to 15,000+ first responder agencies.
Uber uses RapidSOS so riders Text 911 directly
In March 2020, Uber announced a new safety feature to help protect both riders and drivers that will send a real-time rapid SOS and dispatch officers.
This allows riders and drivers a new way to text 911 seamlessly with information about the ride, including its current location, even if the driver has strayed from the route.
Geo-Fence Alerts – How They Work
To improve cellular location accuracy for emergency calls, Google and Apple developed new functionality that could deliver Handset Based Location information to Public Safety Answering Points, providing a large improvement of accuracy in a shorter timeframe.
The information is delivered through the RapidSOS Additional Data Repository, a NG9-1-1 compliant network component. Voice and location data is delivered to the PSAP, while discrete location data is delivered to the Enterprise Security Team allowing event response coordination.
A Geo-Fence of the property allows the enterprise to be alerted to 9-1-1 calls placed from Smartphones within the perimeter.
No registration or software is needed on any of the Smartphones.

adds Emergency Assistance features to Driver App
Grubhub partnered with RapidSOS in January 2023 to utilize their intelligent safety platform that links first responders during an emergency to enhance its driver app. The app provides emergency assistance features to couriers during deliveries.
This partnership will allow delivery drivers to share location data and caller ID information directly with 911 responders when an emergency call is placed through the Grubhub for Drivers app.
SPORTING & CONCERT VENUES
Security and safety management of large stadiums, arenas, or
concert venues can be a daunting task to reach an emergency
promptly.
Navigating through rows of people adds precious seconds
to any response time for your on-site staff.
With today’s E911
capabilities first responders are given limited information for your
property.

Informacast Mobile Panic Button
When organizations look at mass notification solutions, they often focus on the word “mass.” They want a tool that allows them to reach as many people as possible with critical information.
With a wide range of device integrations, including desk phones, speakers, digital signage, desktop computers, and mobile phones, organizations can deliver messages to everyone.
This helps keep people safe, minimizes operational disruptions, and builds confidence that no matter what kind of event occurs, there are tools and procedures in place to handle it.
While these features help keep everyone informed, many organizations are looking for ways to provide more personalized protection solutions for their staff.
Whether it’s someone walking back to their car at night in an isolated parking lot or someone working in a remote area of a facility, organizations have a duty of care they need to fulfill to send assistance to those in need of help.
One of the biggest challenges to accomplishing this goal though is knowing who is asking for help and where there are.
Panic buttons available via mobile apps can offer individuals an immediate way to request assistance.
In the video, you’ll see a real-life example of how mobile panic buttons available through the InformaCast app can help a person in need when they encounter a dangerous situation.
How Healthcare Can Benefit from Mass Notification
In healthcare, providing a safe environment ensures smooth operations and excellent patient care.
That goal can only be achieved with strong communication, but without the right tools in place, healthcare organizations can waste precious time trying to information into the hands of the people who need it.
While implementing a mass notification system may seem like a challenge, both in terms of time and resources, healthcare organizations that deploy it for use across all their departments will get more value out of their investment.
Whether it’s doctors and nurses trying to help patients, security trying to protect visitors and staff, or facilities and IT teams making sure everything within a building continues to run as it should, they should all be able to leverage a mass notification tool to carry out their duties.
